On Wednesday evening the North Huon Warriors Under 13 side headed over to Cygnet to take on the Slab Road Roadies at Cygnet Memorial Oval in fine conditions, with the Roadies captain winning the toss and sending the Warriors in to bat.
The Roadies bowlers made it hard work for the Warriors to get going, with openers Lucas Sullivan and Ollie Coulson both going for ducks within the first three overs and Brady Harriss (1) and Lincoln Penney (0) both falling in the fourth.
Amongst the mayhem, Jacob Richards kept a cool head, retiring on 10 after his first spell, including a couple of boundaries, and coming back in to make a further five runs, for a total of 15, undefeated.
Phillip Hale again put in an impressive performance with the bat in the middle of the order, pushing the run rate up and retiring on 24 after his allocated 17 balls, top scoring for the Warriors, Callum Eaves also made a quickfire 17, before he was bowled by Henry Compton, who was Slab’s only multiple wicket taker with 2-12.
The Warriors finished their 20 overs on 7-92.
In reply, the Roadies made a good start, with Travis Walter, Seth Denny, Pat Compton and Hunter Thorpe all retiring undefeated after their allocated balls, Henry Little the first wicket to fall for the Roadies, thanks to the bowling of Coulson.
Hale also picked himself up another couple of scalps, Blake Direen gone to a catch to Eaves and Henry Compton caught by Sullivan.
With a close finish, the Warriors fell agonisingly short, Slab finishing on 6-100, an eight-run victory to the top of the table Roadies.
