The Warriors Black Stage 1 team hosted a youthful Margate Green side at Ranelagh on Monday night.
This Margate team is playing the Stage 1 division for the
first time, and had several players new to the game.
The visitors won the toss and sent the Warriors in to bat. The entire Warriors top order established the foundations for a good total and set up an exciting finish from captain
Lewis Thorpe who blasted three boundaries on his way to 23 off just 12 balls.
Jethro, Cooper, Jack and AJ all made their highest ever scores and the team finished on 7-111.
The match was evenly balanced until the fifth over, when Oscar snared three wickets on his way to figures of 4-4. Cooper Lorkin’s training session on Thursday bore fruit, and he snared a couple of wickets ending up with 2-9 off three overs.
All round accurate bowling and an improved fielding effort kept the visitors to 8-73.
The Warriors were comfortable overall winners, with a score of 143 to the visitors 106.
North Huon Yellow travelled to Kingston Beach on Monday to take on Kingborough Knights, with some familiar faces greeting them in the home side.
Lucas Raine, captaining for the day, won the bat toss and elected to bowl.
All bowlers showed improvement from last week – Alex Leaman taking 2-12 from his four overs, and Zach Darke took 2-6 from his two overs after keeping well in the first stanza.
Lucas Raine bowled tightly, only going for three runs from his two overs, whilst Jack Batchelor bowled well in his first game, and Max Kull and Sam Clark also bowled well.
With the side taking five wickets and chasing a total of 60, Max and Zach batted solidly without losing a wicket, as did Jack who followed.
However runs were hard to come by, and some tight bowling combined with a slow ground saw North Huon finish with 6-52, the wickets coming later in the innings in pursuit of runs.
This week’s Player of the Week was Zach Darke (pictured), with 2-6, 5 not out, and some great keeping.
Next week sees North Huon Yellow take on North Huon Black in the local derby.
