North Huon Cricket Underway

North Huon commenced their 2018-19 campaign, with A Grade playing in 2 T20s.

First travelling to Kettering to take on a new look Mariners, North Huon won the toss and elected to bat, and complied 4-162 from their 20 overs.

Jackson Pastoor went with the score on 20, but the other batsmen all got starts without anyone really kicking on. Sam Roberts top scored with 41 at the top of the order, whilst Adam Crowe (29), Lachie Fraser (29*), and Kyle Paul (26) all helped the total.

In reply, wickets to Josh Stevenson, Mark Cordwell, and Paul helped put the pressure on the Mariner’s but some lusty hitting at the back end of the innings saw the home team able to get over the total in a tight game, with 4 balls to spare.

Plenty of really encouraging signs from the squad in their first hit out, in particularly from new members Fraser and Cordwell, who have fitted into the side well.

After a quick drive down the road to Franklin, is was time to take on the Southern Tigers, who were rather depleted due to wedding festivities.

With the Tigers electing to bat first, Aiden Geeves, Stevenson, and Bevan Roberts all took wicket to put early pressure on the Tigers lineup, from which they never really recovered, struggling to 8-60 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Brad Pitt batted like a man who was late for work, and made short work of the total, with North Huon cruising to victory for the loss of only 1 wicket.

B Grade was scheduled to start this week, but will have to wait until next round, being drawn against the Tigers as well, who were unable to scratch together a side due to the aforementioned wedding.

Focus now turns to week 2, with A Grade commencing their 50 over program, hosting a return bout with Kettering at Ranelagh commencing at the new time of 10:30am, whilst B Grade will host Longley at Glen Huon from 10:30.
