A Gathering of Vikings

A Gathering of Vikings

Sunday saw nearly 20 past Glen Huon players gather at the Glen Huon to catch up, reminisce, and knock around the white ball for a few overs.

With nearly 10 years passing since the merger between Glen Huon and Ranelagh Grove, it was decided to get together some of the former players involved with the Glen Huon Cricket Club for a chance to reconnect.

Some lusty blows were mingled with some crashing stumps, before rain intervened to end play a little early, but not before some the older players showed glimpses of days gone by.

Running a modified format, batting in pairs for 5 overs and a wicket reducing the score by 5 runs, Troy Geeves led the way with the bat with 39, Josh Woolley looked like he had never been out of the game with 27, and Phil Watson cleared the fence a couple of times on the way to 24.

With the ball, Jason Bester showed some of the class of years gone by with 3-6, whilst Tim Lovell, more known for his keeping, took 2-14.

A great day was held by all, and the club will look to host this again at the start of next season.

A reminder that the Club’s Annual Dinner will be held this Saturday night, from 6:30pm, at the Glen Huon Hall. Cost is $35 per head, with enquiries to Marcus Raine on 0414 641 398. The Club would love to see you there for the evening, with Arianne Crowe putting in a magnificent effort to get everything ready.
