Round 8 Wrap Up

Round 8 Wrap Up

Saturday saw A Grade host Longley at Glen Huon,

With the visitors batting first, some hard hitting early was stemmed by a couple of early wickets to Bevan Roberts, and Jacob Stanway and Braeden Page both claimed wickets through the middle order to keep the total in check.

A flurry of late hitting saw Longley post a total of 280 from their 50 overs.

An early wicket didnt help the Warrior cause, but a number of batsmen were able to get starts, with 4 scores posted in the thirties. Unfortunately, no one could kick on for the big score required, and whilst the side batted the best part of 50 overs, were eventually dismissed for 194.

B Grade travelled to Longley, and were invited to bat. Jackson Pastoor and Joe Roberts got off to a good start before Pastoor went for 35. Phil Bell then combined with Roberts for a 143 run stand, with Bell the aggressor, scoring a great 116 from only 69 balls, Roberts was playing the boat anchor role to perfection, giving the top order something to bat around.

Some quick run scoring at the end to Jamie Mullins and Marcus Raine saw a total of 333 posted.

The North Huon bowlers all contributed, and shared around the wickets, but was punctuated with Raine matching Scott Coad’s effort last week and taking his 500th club wicket.

Longley were held to 8-255 in reply to give the win to the Warriors.

C1 Grade played out a close game at Glen Huon, going down by 7 runs to the Southern Tigers. Blake Lovell was the leading bowler for the home side with 4-36, but got good support from Jason Nichols who took 3-12, and Will Qaurrier with 2-9.

Cooper Sawdy was the mainstay with 42 at the top of the order, but when things slipped to 8-92 things looked grim. Will Quarrier and Liam Murray-Bell had other things in mind, and put together a 49 run partnership before Quarrier was dismissed for 33. Jonny Thorpe couldn’t hold one with Murray-Bell however, the Warriors not able to get the win.

C2 Grade travelled up the road the Blackmans Bay, with the ‘man off the street” John Usuaga proving the best player of the day.

A late withdrawal saw him recruited at short notice, and he top scored with 43, and took 1-31 in a good all round display. Daniel Partridge also bowled superbly, taking 3-30, and James Oates took 2-55, with the Bay posting a big total in 309.

Shane Fletcher and James Oates also both got starts to support Usuaga, but North Huon closed for 195 in pursuit.
