Round 7 Wrap Up

Round 7 Wrap Up

North Huon’s A Grade travelled out to Woodbridge, and soon found themselves batting first.

Sam Roberts and Kyle Paul got off to a promising start, pushing the score along to 57 before losing Roberts. Andy Crowe played his bets knock for the year hitting up a top score of 65, but lacked support, with no one able to hang around with him, North Huon eventually being dismissed for 213.

In reply, the bowlers pushed Woodbridge all the way, but the total proved to not be enough, North Huon going down with an over to go.

B Grade hosted Bruny Island at Glen Huon, and were able to post 7-231 from their 50 overs. Phil Bell scored 41 at the top of the order, A number of low dismissals saw the innings teeter at 5-101, but Taylor Campisi (28) anchored and important partnership with Scott Stevenson (63*).

On Glen Huon the Warriors would have to work hard to defend that total, but it became a whole heap easier with the spell that Riley Anning produced with the new ball, tearing through the Bruny lineup, taking the first 7 wickets in a fantastic spell of 7-14 form 10. This spell was amazing to behold with some absolute jaffas coming out. Codie Rawnsley with 2 wickets, and Luke Stocks were left to clean up the tail and bowl Bruny out for 56.

Sunday and C Grade was all about the milestones, but unfortunately didn’t bear any premiership points.

C1 travelled down the road to Huonville, where the hosts posted 7-216. Liam Murray Bell was the pick of the bowlers in his return to the club, taking 2 wickets, but Jason Nichols was finally able to capture his 200th club wicket, after being stranded on 199 for the last 14 years or so.

In reply, North Huon were able to bat out the 50 overs, but were never really in the hunt, losing wickets in clumps and finding it hard to build a partnership. Tim Phillips top scored with 57, and Cooper Sawdy scored 27 in his return to the club, but the wickets slowed down the run rate, the innings closed on 9-136.

At Glen Huon, the Crows and the North Huon sides welcomed Scott Coad onto the ground in recognition of his 350th club game, and he was still chasing 3 more wickets for his 500th for the club.

He opened the bowling, and was able to remove the two Kingston openers early. Then after the huge 18 month build up, he was able to finally get an edge which was snavelled by Will Quarrier and complete 500 dismissals.

A remarkable effort from Spook, who first started playing with Ranelagh Grove back in the 80s.

Will Quarrier should not be forgotten either – taking 3-23 to go with Spooks 3-16 to dismiss the Crows for 136.

In the excitement the fact the side had to bat and score the runs seemed to be forgotten, with Gemma Gregson, another returnee for the club, top scoring with 18 in a lone hand out of 65 – North Huon no match for the spin of wily veteran, and former Ranelagh Grove player, Poochie Jones. The club would like to wish Jonah all the best in his 300th game for the Crows next time out, to go with his 140 games with Ranelagh Grove.

The Club will hold its Christmas Party this coming Saturday, December 16, from 6pm at Ranelagh. All Senior, Junior, T20 Blast and Milo Cricket participants, and their families, are welcome to attend and see out the year.
