From the freezer to the furnace
Last week was a freezing evening for the Stage 1 junior Warriors at the Bull Ring, then Monday night was a scorcher at Ranelagh as North Huon hosted Margate Red.
The mercury was floating around 35 degrees as the kids started the match shortly after 5pm. Captain Jack Stevenson sent the Bulls in to bat, a decision he may have regretted as the Margate batters came out the blocks on fire.
Not only was the ball flying in all directions off the bat, it seemed to follow Jack around the ground. He led the way in the field, putting his body on the line and making several fine saves in the outfield.
The Mecca were at a Big Bash run rate with an incredible 4/95 after 10 overs! The Warriors stemmed the tide in the second stanza restricting them to 6/171. Alex (3-28) was the pick of the bowlers picking up three clean bowled in a single over, with Felix (1-13) and Max (1-41) the other wicket takers.
The Warriors were already cooked by the time they went into bat. Jack (13) and Connor (11) opened solidly, and then Alex (11) and Anthoney (12) also got some runs. A late flourish from Sebastian (21) was just not enough as the Mecca held on comfortably to win 7/199 to 7/143.
Warrior of the week went to Jack for his fine performance in the field.
The juniors will now enjoy a long break and some summer training sessions before the competition recommences in February.
