Third time unlucky

The wind was blowing the fielding cones all over Ranelagh Oval on Monday evening as the North Huon Warriors stage 1 team hosted a Kingborough side for the third week in a row. After notching wins against the Blue and White, the experienced Black Knights looked like a good match-up for the in-form Warriors.

The Knights were sent in to bat by Captain Felix Bourne, who might have regretted the decision as their openers got off to a flyer. Kingborough didn’t have it all their way though with Connor (2-7) taking wickets with consecutive balls, and Jack (2-20) and Alex (2-23) getting key dismissals. The biggest team celebration was for young Max Stevenson’s first ever wicket – clean bowling one of the Kingborough top-order. The Black Knights finished up with 8-142 – a big total but one the Warriors thought they might be able to chase down.

North Huon were right in the match after a strong start by Alex (16) and Jack (9). Some great fielding and catching by the Knights was probably the difference as Seb (12) and Connor (21) battled hard. It was a high-scoring shootout, with the Black Knights victors 8-174 to 9-139.

Max Stevenson won the match ball for his maiden wicket, great fielding, and speedy running between the wickets.

Next week the junior Warriors are at home again, hosting the Kettering Mariners.
