NORTH HUON WARRIORS
STAGE 1 BLACK
Cool Autumn winds were blowing across Margate Oval earlier this evening, when Margate’s Green side hosted the Warriors Black Stage 1 juniors for the final match of the season.
Xavier Coulson was a late out due to injury, so, in his absence, Lewis Thorpe captained the side.
Lewis won the toss and sent the opposition in to bat with
the sun still shining.
Lewis made the first breakthrough in the second over, and went on to collect impressive figures of 3-17.
Not to be outdone, AJ Terry came on and cleaned up, taking 4-11 off just three overs.
Jethro (2-17), Cooper (1-13) and Hugh (1-19) were the other wicket-takers.
There were run-outs aplenty, and Oscar took a tricky skied catch late in the innings as the clouds rolled in and the winds picked up.
Margate kept the runs flowing, and posted a solid target of 11-114.
Lewis decided to open the batting with Oscar to try and build a platform for the chase.
The tactic worked, with the ball flying over and into the rope despite each batter losing their wicket twice.
Combined Oscar (36) and Lewis (31) hit two sixes (one
each) and seven boundaries taking the score to 4-67 after six overs.
Jack (15) and AJ (9) were solid in the middle order, and importantly didn’t lose a wicket, as they pushed the score on.
Cooper (5) batted bravely against the pace attack, before Jethro (9) and Hugh (7) finished off the innings in tricky
conditions, as the showers started rolling in.
It got very close, and it all came down to wickets in the end. The Warriors reached 9-113 at the end of their knock, scoring one fewer run than their opponents but winning based on the wickets taken (157 to 150).
Captain Thorpe won the Warrior of the Week for a superb all-round effort with bat and ball.
That’s it for the season for the boys.
It’s great to see the significant improvements in confidence, skills, and match awareness over the summer.
We hope to see you all next year in the yellow and black!
