NORTH HUON WARRIORS STAGE 1 BLACK
A fixture oddity meant that the Stage One Black side hosted Kettering for the second time this season, but this time they were back at Ranelagh Oval for the clash.
The toss was won by the Warriors, and Captain Oscar sent the bigger and more experienced visitors in to bat.
Runs flowed off the opening bowlers, with lots of left-handed batters putting the bowlers off their line.
Wickets started to fall in the fourth over, with Cooper (2-17) making the first breakthrough.
Jack (2-21) picked up both his wickets in his first over. These two first year players were the pick of the bowlers, with Lewis (1-16), Xavier (1-22) and AJ (1-37) the other wicket-takers.
Kettering found plenty of the boundary rope, scoring 14 fours and one six on their way to 7-168.
An early injury to opener Lewis meant that first drop Jack (15) was out there to face the third ball.
He and Xavier (17) got the Warriors off to a solid start,
with the score at 2-32 after five overs.
Lewis returned and immediately dispatched his third ball over the rope, hitting another six and two more fours to
top-score and finish his innings at 25.
The Kettering attack was fast and accurate, and caused problems for all the batters.
Oscar (20), Cooper (14) and AJ (19) batted well in the middle order and mostly kept the ball on the ground, whilst Hugh (8) and Jethro (7) saved their best for the final match of the season next week.
The Warriors finished with plenty of runs and dismissals to end up at 13-125.
With wickets taken into account the boys did well to lose a high scoring match 220 to 153, and should be very proud of putting up a fight.
The first year players really showed how far they’ve come since facing the same opposition at Glen Huon back in October last year.
The visiting captain said after the game “you guys made us really work for that”.
