The North Huon Under 16s have gone back to back, winning their second Grand Final in two years.
Despite having gone down to the same side last week, North Huon hosted the Southern Tigers at Glen Huon, and won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions. Without the services of Jaxon Thorpe due to a broken foot, Luke Smith and Daniel Partridge opened the batting, taking the score to 41 before Smith was bowled for 7.
Partridge went soon after with the score on 61 for 28, leaving captain Jonny Thorpe and Will Quarrier to push the scoring rate up. Thorpe soon retied, Sam Kile cam and went with the score on 122, and Quarrier retired as well not long after.
Baydon-Jack Armstrong and Jayden Richards then combined to see the score to 175 with 5 overs to go, before Richards was bowled for 24. A late flurry of wickets in the final overs Saw Armstrong finish on 21, Jai Terry out for 1, Jackson Geeves and Broughton Chapman not trouble the scorers, and Anthony Harrisson run out for 3 in the scramble for quick runs.
This saw Thorpe and Quarrier return for the last few balls, Thorpe eventually dismissed on the last ball of the innings for 37, Quarrier finishing 26 not out.
Tight bowling was the order of the evening, with gloomy skies overhead, and opening bowlers Armstrong and Quarrier obliged – Armstrong taking a key wicket in his 3rd over. before Jai Terry grabbed another breakthrough, and a wicket and run out in a Dan Partridge over put the Tigers right on the back foot.
Armstrong returned to take another, and Jonny Thorpe took 2 in two balls to have North Huon with one hand one the shield. not to be outdone, Partridge also took 2 in two balls, leaving Terry to take the final wicket and complete a great win fo the side.
Partridge finished with 3-26, Armstrong 2-10 from 4 in a great spell, Terry 2-8 and Thorpe 2-21.
Many thanks to The Southern Tigers for the day and season, and also thanks to Tony Watson for looking after the charges again this year, and the assistance from Kyle Paul and Andy Crowe, as well as the parents that assisted throughout the year.
