Women have long been involved in cricket in the Huon, but rarely seen on the field.
This could be set to change in the near future. With the boom in interest in womens cricket through the WBBL and Cricket Tasmania Womens competition, the North Huon Cricket Club has taken on the task of opening up the Huon for womens Cricket.
“We believe there is enough interest out there through the Huon and Channel to get a competition up and going sometime in the future, but it needs to start somewhere, and this is where the North Huon Cricket Club comes in” said club secretary Marcus Raine.
Alongside committee member Bec Thorpe and Jenna Jacobson, the three have arranged a ‘Come and Have a Go” session at the Huonville PCYC on Thursday July 6, at 6pm.
“This is open to all ages, and all women and girls of any skill level” said Marcus. “ We are just putting the feelers out at this stage – there is no obligation to continue on, but we would love to see you come and have a go if you are interested”
The Club has set up a Facebook page to easily convey information and times, or alternately you can contact Marcus on marcus@northhuoncc.com or 0414 641 398 or further information.
