Week 1 Report – October 15

North Huon began its 2016-17 campaign in ernest on saturday, with the first week of the T20s.

Div 1 travelled to Lightwood Park to take on the Eagles and Snug in the first 2 games.

Batting first against the Eagles, North Huon posted 8-142 from their 20 overs, Adam Crowe hitting a run a ball 45, while Shane Fletcher chipped in with 21.

Josh Stevenson led the charge with the ball, taking 4-10 from his 4 overs, while Phil Bell and Bevan Roberts both grabbed 2 wickets to bowl out Summerleas for 72, and pick up a bonus point.

The second game saw Josh Woolley in the toss, and elect to field again straight away.

Snug kept up a steady run rate of 7 per over on the back of their captains innings, but couldn’t really break away from the North Huon bowlers, who despite only taking 4 wickets, were able to keep the Snug total to 135.

Sam Roberts opened the batting and set the tone, knocking up 33, and Shane Fletcher and Marcus Raine were able to ease the Warriors over the line with 3.4 overs to go, scoring 48 not out and 23 not out respectively.

A good start with 2 wins, and something to build on.

Div 2 hosted Summerleas at Ranelagh, and were able to hold on for a tight 5 run win in the opening game, mainly on the back of 44 from Connor Robson. Luke Stocks and Codie Rawnsley were the pick of the bowlers.

In the second game against Kettering, North Huon had 105 to defend. Needing 8 in 2 overs Kettering were seemingly home and hosed, but the Warriors were able to dig deep and restrict them to just 7, playing out a thrilling tie, and recording a win and tie for the day.

T20s continue next week, with Div 1 travelling to Sherburd Park, while Div 2 travel to Cygnet.

Training continues Tuesday and Thursday nights at Ranelagh 6pm, while underage training is at Ranelagh on Monday nights 4pm.
